450 VET teachers strengthen their digital competences through Skills4Recovery

Nearly 450 teachers from 45 vocational education institutions across Ukraine have strengthened their digital competencies through training programmes implemented by the Estonian NGO Mondo within the Multi-Donor Initiative Skills4Recovery. The results of this work were presented at the conference “VET 2.0: Digital Skills and Management Solutions”, held in Kyiv on 5 March 2026.

Over the past year and a half, Estonia has been supporting the nationwide reform of vocational education in Ukraine through Skills4Recovery. The reform aims to modernise the system and adapt it to the new labour market conditions shaped by the war.

One of the key areas of this work has been supporting teachers in vocational education institutions, who play a vital role in preparing skilled professionals for the country’s recovery, as well as strengthening their digital competences. Mondo delivers digital skills training for Ukrainian educators and also provides mental health support. Alongside developing digital skills, it is equally important to strengthen teachers' and educational institutions' confidence in their ability to act independently.

In addition, a training programme on educational technologies has been developed to help education institutions systematically introduce digital innovation into the learning process.

“Reforming vocational education in Ukraine is not only about creating new curricula, but also about ensuring that teachers have the necessary skills and tools to deliver modern education. Mondo’s work in developing digital skills and creating a training programme on educational technologies helps strengthen the entire system. As a result, vocational education institutions can offer learning that prepares people to contribute to the recovery of Ukraine’s economy,” said Kristi Kulu, Head of Education at ESTDEV.

Participants also paid particular attention to the digital transformation of education in Ukraine. In particular, Iryna Shumik, Director General of the Directorate for Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, emphasised that digital competences must be integrated into all subjects as a cross-cutting component of the educational process.

“Digitalisation in vocational education is what the labour market demands. There is no other way, as changes in the labour market are driven by the technologies used in the workplace,” said Oleksii Oleksiuk, Component Manager of the Multi Donor Initiative Skills4Recovery.
